Amazing Snake Facts for all

 We all know that snakes are one of the interesting creatures on this earth.  Snakes are the reptiles which can arouse either interest in them or fear about them.  Even though most of the snakes are not poisonous and do not do any harm to us, many of us are afraid and filled with terror when ever we see a snake nearby us.   There are nearly 3000 species of snakes in this world and only 575 of them are poisonous. You can see different kind of snakes from Python which can swallow big animals like deer to small snakes which are few inches in length.

Some of the snakes even climb trees, while some snakes live in under ground and some live in water and lakes.  Here are some of the fascinating facts about snakes.

  • Snakes vary in different sizes,  the anaconda can grow up to 38 feet long, where as brahminy blind snake is just 2 inches long which is the smallest snake in the world.
  • One interesting facts about snakes is that they need to shed their skin regularly.  As they grow they shed their skin, a process known as molting.  The snakes shed their skin by rubbing their head against something rough and hard, like a piece of wood or a rock. 
  • Snakes have more than 200 teeth.  Snakes do not use these teeth to chew as they point backwards, but bite and grip their prey using these teeth.
  • One of the interesting fact about snakes is that Snakes are very shy of human beings and snakes never attack human beings unless they feel threatened.  
  • The black necked cobra, spits its venom into the eyes of its victim to cause blindness.
  • Snakes can go without food for several days.  In facts some snakes  live for even six months without food.
  • One interesting fact is that there are no snakes in New Zealand.
  • The snake poison contains ninety percent protein.
  • The sea snakes are the most poisonous in the world.
  • The Black Mamba is the fastest snake in the world.  It can each speeds upto 12 miles per hour.
  • The snakes smell with their tongues.
  • Snakes do not have eye lids.
  • Snakes are completely deaf.  They know about others by only vibrations.
  • King cobra is the only snake which build nests to lay eggs
  • Snakes are the most effective natural control on rodent population
